About

“I create art  to feed the mind, nourish the soul, and lift the spirit. Art truly has the power to heal."

Background:
Born and raised in New York, Ms. Berger received her degree in Visual  Arts from S.U.N.Y. at Purchase. After traveling widely in Europe, she settled in San Francisco where she has been inspired by the vibrant mix of divergent cultures of her neighborhood in the Mission District to make art for over thirty years.

Commissions:
April specializes in one-of-a-kind commissions for both corporate and residential settings. Her work is exhibited and sold internationally and nationwide. Her works range from $1,500-$15,000.

Judaica:
In an exploration of her Jewish roots, April was drawn to the Kabbalah, a mystical sect of Judaism. Intrigued by the belief that the letters of the Hebrew alphabet each convey an aspect of divine energy, she sought to create art that would engage the viewer in a mystical experience. The dynamic impact of these pieces is startling and undeniable.

Tapestries:
April’s tapestries are created by layering fabrics, paper and paint on canvas. These pieces are then framed in fabrics that interact with the contents of each piece. While contemporary in their expression, these pieces echo ancient Chinese wall hangings and Tibetan thangkas.

Murals:
Berger has been involved in the SF Arts Commission's "StreetSmARTS" program. This program works with building owners who's facades have been tagged with graffiti. The owner pays for the supplies, while the city pays the artists for their mural.
She also began a project called the "Paint it Forward Project." Using Kickstarter to raise funds, she has begun working with city youth to paint murals throughout San Francisco.
