CV

April Berger creates art in order to nourish the soul, lift the spirit and feed the mind. Her work evokes an emotional response to the interplay of form, pattern, texture, and color.

April chooses to work non-figuratively in her exploration with these ingredients: "I find the impact is much more immediate and allows the viewer to respond in a more direct way." She uses a variety of mediums to reach this goal.

Her tapestries are created by layering fabrics, paper and paint on canvas. These pieces are then framed in fabrics that interact with the contents of each piece. While contemporary in their expression, these pieces hearken back to ancient Chinese tapestries.

April works with oils on canvas to explore light and color in a more traditional format. "I've always loved the luminosity that oils allow."

Born and raised in New York, April received her degree in Visual Arts from S.U.N.Y. at Purchase. She has travelled and studied art in Europe and Africa, and exhibits and sells her work both internationally and domestically.
