the spiritual force within all the letters of the alef-beit.
the initial point of time and space.
that state of self-nullification for which every soul must strive in order to begin to comprehend the true service of God. 
in the service of God, the “pathway” is the ability to contract and direct one’s energy in a concentrated and purposeful way. finding the “pathway,” one’s direction in life, depends upon the ability to subdue one’s worldly desires and passions and to humble one’s ego. this is the act of contraction, tzimtzum, by which one enters into the consciousness of the present moment, the point of “suspended animation”—continual re-creation.
